Picasso is a glass work of art that I made in the context of the year of his death, 1973, recently 50 years ago. The work was on display in the former cigar factory and Monaco bar at Hof 43 in Bergeijk from the end of January 2024 until the end of February. The exhibition: Tribute to Picasso was organized by three artist associations that worked together on this project: In tribute to the painter, the Bergeijkse Artists Association contacted the De Rietpen art association and the Kosmos Lommel art circle (BE).
It was quite a challenge to pay tribute to Picasso and express that in glass art. The design took several days to complete. The final work took many more days. The glass artwork is a fused work of 6 mm thick where each individual piece of glass of course had to fully fit the pieces above, alongside and below it.
For some, my Picasso is a puzzle and some see it immediately. If you can’t see it right away: Look at the red mouths. You will see that there is a nose and an eye above each.
