Glass artist Claudia Kuyken has made: James Ensor – Inspired by Masks, the light and Ostend in memory of James Ensor. Ensor lived and worked all his life in Ostend and is known for his masks, in 3D and in his paintings. In 2024 it will be 75 years since James Ensor died. The light of the seaside resort of Ostend has often inspired him, which is reflected in many of his paintings.
Claudia has made, in her own way, a mask in the shape of Coral. The coral represents the Mask because you can see through it. Of course, the coral also represents the sea and Ostend.
The front of the coral has a different color than the back: This represents the unknown emotions behind the mask. With the right lighting you can also see through the coral, causing the red front to softly shine through at the back. This represents The Light.
The work can be seen during the Ensor, James Ensor Pop-up expo Kerkstraat 11, Lommel (BE) Pre-opening on Friday June 7 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. From Saturday, June 8, 2024 to Saturday, June 29, 2024. Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
