My glass artwork Fly represents the fleetingness of life and is part of the World Colandlection. Fly if you can is, the message! In the World collection I design make glass artworks inspired by social problems. Such as sustainability, the speed of life and, among other things, the environment.

I made two glass plates which I glued together on two sides of the artwork. These sidewalls represent the annual rings of a tree which I sandblasted. The annual rings continue perfectly on the adjacent glass.

The birdhouse in the middle stands loose on the wooden surface. A possible bird can fly away because there are openings between the two glass sidewalls so: Fly if you can……

I cut the glass by hand, as I always do but now with great precision so that the green appearance of the glass on all sides retains its glossy appearance.

What makes it even more special is that both the birdhouse and the side walls can be removed from the holder for cleaning.
