Coral is a glass artwork that I designed after watching the video of Aruba again. An island where we went on vacation years ago. It is almost impossible to capture the beauty and colors of coral on video or a photo. That is why I came up with the idea of working out coral in glass. I feel like I’m back on the beautiful Caribbean island! The two coral pieces that I put on top of this artwork are finished not so finely to make a statement.
Since coral has been suffering for years and dies when it comes into contact with polluted water or (plastic) waste and global warming also has a major impact on coral, The impact on our lives is enormous. But also human touch causes coral to die. The moment coral is touched, the slime layer of the animals is damaged and there is a chance that the coral will die.
Although coral reefs occupy barely 0.2% of the ocean surface, they are home to 30% of marine biodiversity. For fish and other marine life, corals provide shelter from predators and are a nursery and breeding ground for many species. They form the essential basis of marine life in the tropics.
Of all my glass artworks, only 1 piece is designed and made in my own glass studio, so you are assured of a unique piece!
